Beauty queens seldom achieve national prominence in sport This year, however, there is one notable exception. Mrs Noeline Sutton (nee East), who won the Miss West Coast title two years ago, rose from the obscurity of the rank and file to win the New Zealand women’s discus championship at Lower Hutt last Saturday. In doing so she beat the Commonwealth Games representative, Miss D. Charteris, who, like Mrs Sutton, hails from the

West Coast. Her winning throw of 144 ft Bin was the second best of her athletics career. Late last year she achieved 145 ft Now 21, Mrs Sutton still does occasional modelling for a clothing manufacturer in Christchurch, her present home. Her main occupation is shorthand-typing. She was also placed In the New Zealand discus final in Christchurch last season, taking third position behind Mrs V. I. Young and Miss Charteris.
