CESTRUM ELEGANS is one of the few species of this genus which are hardy enough to be grown locally. It grows quite rapidly, forming a loose, somewhat pendant shrub 8ft to 10ft high. Reddish-purple flowers are borne in dense, pendulous racemes, followed by deep, purple-red berries in autumn. The leaves are rather typical of the Solanaceae family—long, lanceolate, dull green, and downy.
