OVER-WING FUEL TANKS are being fitted to Royal Air Force Lightning fighters in addition to their normal tanks for long-range ferrying. They will not normally be used for operational flights. Each tank holds 260 gallons of fuel. The first Lightning to be fitted with the new tanks is shown being refuelled in flight over Scotland from a Victor tanker. The photograph was taken from an R.A.F. Hunter T.Mk 7 aircraft flown at a height of 30,000 ft at about 400 miles an hour.
