Six Charged Over Ky Incidents

(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, March 9. Six more persons appeared in the Magistrate’s Court this morning on charges arising from incidents during Air ViceMarshal Ky’s visit to Auckland on January 24 and 25. ,

A charge of behaving in a disorderly manner at Auckland airport against a 21-year-old school teacher, Ronald Bevan Judd, was adjourned by Mr C. E. H. Pledger, S.M., until Tuesday morning for decision. The Magistrate said he found there was a case to answer but he would have to reserve his decision on submissions by counsel, Mr F. H. Haigh, that there was no intention of disorderly behaviour on the part of Judd in that he was crossing the road for a valid reason.

Inspector P. J. Gaines said that as the entourage was moving out of the main airport gates in cars, Judd had crossed a rope barrier and headed toward the cars in the entourage before being arrested.

Charges of resisting a constable and behaving in a disorderly manner in Wyndham

street were denied by David Glenfield Evans, aged 42, a welder, also representd by Mr Haigh. Inspector Gaines said Evans was seen arguing with a person in the crowd. He was then seen to strike the person and became violent when taken away from the rest It was necessary for two constables almost to carry him away from the scene.

After the evidence of the two police constables, Evans through Mr Haigh, changed his plea to guilty on the charge of behaving in a disorderly manner and was fined £l2 10s. Police withdrew the charge of resisting a constable.

Mr Haig said Evans was of excellent character and the incident was caused by an unusual combination of factors.

The other four had' their cases remanded.
