BID FOR LOAN

No Comment By Minister (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, March 9. The Minister of Finance, Mr Muldoon, said tonight he had no intention of commenting at present on a Wellington report that the Government was “virtually certain” to apply to the International Monetary Fund for a £l6 million loan under the fund’s compensatory finance agreement

The report said the Government was virtually certain to apply because there had been no improvement in the wool market. Informal discussions in Wellington by a team of LM.F. officials in the last fortnight had paved the way for a loan approach. “Naturally, there will be a number of suggestions of this nature on the economic situation within the next few weeks. But it is not my intention to comment on any of these at this stage,” said Mr Muldoon.
