SCHOOLS’ CRICKET

Linwood Gains Control

At the end of the first day of Its annual cricket match with Cashmere High School, Linwood High School was In a strong position for outright victory. Cashmere batted first but was unable to handle the off-spln bowling of R. Budhia, who finished with well-deserved figures of seven for 22 from 14.1 overs.

The Linwood batsmen, with the exception of B. Bhana, found runs hard to score. However, Bhana took complete command, his 118 occupying only 135 minutes, and including 16 fours.

The best of the Cashmere bowlers, A. Larter, had most of the other players in trouble and deserved more reward.

Scores: Cashmere High School 88 (R. Budhia 7/22) and one for 1, Linwood High School 213 (B. Bhana 118, M. Calder 33; T. Rule 3/27, A. Larter 3/73).
