Threw Chair At Police

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, March 9. A seaman who threw a chair at a police sergeant during a fight in a restaurant early this morning, was sentenced to six weeks’ imprisonment by Mr H. Jenner Wily, S.M., today.

Donald Murray Joss, aged 35, pleaded guilty to the charge of assaulting a police officer in the course of his duty.

Sergeant D. E. Henderson said that the chair struck tbe sergeant’s face and as a result he required six stitches in his face.

Joss was a bystander to a fight between two men in the restaurant, which the police had been called to at 1.45 a.m.
