Wool-store Centre In Paparua Area

An area off Marshs road in Paparua county on the Lincoln industrial railway line may be developed as a centre for wool and grain stores. Three stock and station agency companies own land there, but all emphasise that any development is a long-term plan and that the route of the southern motorway could affect decisions. Pyne, Gould, Guinness When this stage is reached

Ltd., and Dalgety and New Zealand Loan, Ltd., own one area. They expect that eventually the increase in the wool to be-sold by them Individually in Christchurch will necessitate far larger wool stores than can be provided on their Moorhouse avenue land.

each company will build a large single-storey wool store on the Marshs road site. The area required for each store, with attendant siding, road, parking and landscaping facilities, is about 20 acres. Provided the southern motorway follows its present planned course these areas will be available on the site. In the meantime Dalgety and New Zealand Loan, Ltd., is proceeding with a plan to build grain and seed stores on an area next to the industrial line.

The New Zealand Farmers’ Co-operative Association of Canterbury, Ltd., owns 48 acres in the area, but has no plans in the near future to move its wool store. Mr R. H. Clark, the general manager, said the land had been bought as an investment for the fuutre. There was not the pressure on the company’s wool store in Moorhouse avenue now, as the company had bought the Tai Tapu Dairy Company’s old factory and some houses and extended the store. Any development of the Marshs road land was more likely to be in another field, but he declined to say what it would be, as the board had not yet considered it.
