Successful Show Held At Winchester

With entries for the show at 2500 and gate takings up on last year, the fifty-sixth show of the Temuka-Geraldine Agricultural and Pastoral Association at the Winchester Show Grounds on Saturday was one of the most successful.

In the show ring throughout the day where the horse and pony events were the major attraction, riders competed in a section for hunters. Jumping events were held over a straightforward course around the edge of the show ring. This replaced the intricate course of hurdles of F.E.I. jumping usually regarded as an integral part of A. shows. Entries were the biggest in this section in the last 10 years. A competitor in these events, Miss A. Baxter, of Rakaia, on Delmont Lad, took most of the major prizes. Judges in the cattle and sheep events commented on the high standard in which stock had been brought forward, and in the cattle section, N. J. Sherriff and Sons, of Milford, had a most successful day. Show officials and exhibitors were congratulated by the member of Parliament for the district (Mr R. L. G. Talbot), who with the association president (Mr H. Lyon) walked at the head of the Grand Parade with the Temuka Highland Pipe Band. R.t Lambs (Judge: Mr G. A. Davey, Temuka.)
