MOORE GIFT TO BRITAIN
Major Works Worth £lm. (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) LONDON, February 26. The sculptor, Henry Moore, has offered Britain between 20 and 30 of his major works believed to be worth one million pounds, the “Sunday Telegraph” said. The gift will probably go to the Tate Gallery, London. It will be the most important gift by a living British artist since Turner left the contents of his studio to Britain in 1851. “I’ve always had a soft spot for the Tate,” Moore said yesterday at his home in Hertfordshire. Plans for acceptance are well under way. A special Moore gallery may have to be built at the Tate.
