DUNEDIN.
Court Belle won her second race for the season when she outstayed the opposition in the Wingatui Handicap, the £lOOO feature race and second leg of the Dunedin Jockey Club’s double on Saturday. With Flying Trix, winner of the Autumn Handicap, she paid £7312s 6d for £l.
Court Belle was ridden by B. J. Anderton, who rode her when she won the Wyndham Cup.
Court Belle ran two sound races at the Wellington Cup meeting and her close fourth in the Wellington Racing Club Handicap indicated that she was well seasoned.
Golden Glen, runner-up in the hurdle race on the first day of the meeting, surprised by holding off Segundo by half a head for second place. Golden Glen was handy all the way, as was Segundo. Hushaway had his chance, but failed to round off his effort. He was half a length back fourth, ahead of the other Riccarton candidate, Gingerbread, which came from the rear at the half-mile to show up wide out into the straight The Greatest finished last after having the run of the race behind Lucky Son. Flying Trix, one of the hardy stock of Kurdistan, upset calculations when she held off a brilliant run by Sailor’s Flight in the Autumn Handicap, seven furlongs. Flying Trix ran the distance in Imin 24 2-ssec, only l-ssec outside the track record. It was Flying Trix’s twentieth win and her third for the season.
Ridden by G. W. Wright, she had the run of the race behind the pace-makers, Gladaub and Irish Gloss. When these two stopped in the straight Flying Trix made a winning break and in a desperate finish she held off the fast finishing Sailor’s Flight,
which came from fifth or sixth at the turn. There was a length and a half to Lisa, which finished fast after being slow away. Middy held on for fourth ahead of Acron, Blue Rose and the top-weight, Palisade, which disputed favouritism with Sailor’s Flight. Palisade raced toward the rear most of the way and although he improved a few places in the straight he did not make his characteristic finishing effort. Arabian Light, the hot fav-
ourite and first home in the Allanton Hurdles, was relegated to third after an inquiry into interference at the last hurdle when Great Guns was squeezed for room and the pace-maker Underwood Lass fell. This event was the first leg of the on-course concession double. When the lightlysupported Star Quality was promoted to first place It set the stage for a £34 10s dividend with Gay Gabador and £3O 16s on the concession double with Carolina.
