PEDESTRIAN KILLED

NELSON, Feb. 26.
A young Englishman was killed and another seriously injured when they were struck by a car at Tasman, 11 miles from Motueka, last night.
The police would not release the names of either of the men today as relatives in England have still to be informed.
The dead man, aged 26, who was killed almost instantly,
and the injured man are both seasonal workers. It is believed that they were struck by the car about 9 p.m. yesterday while walking on the main road at Tasman. A passenger in the car was also injured in the accident and was taken to hospital. His name has not yet been released. Hit By Car A pedestrian, who was hit by a car in Great North road, Auckland, shortly after 1 a.m. today died in Auckland Hospital half an hour later. He was Tuarongonui Jim Crow, a freezing worker, aged 52, of 2 Richborne street, Kingsland. Youth Drowned An 18-year-old youth drowned in 18 inches of water at Paraparaumu beach on Saturday. He was David Warne, of Owhiro Bay parade, Island Bay, Wellington. He went swimming with friends at the north end of the beach at 2.30 p.m. A doctor applied mouth-to-mouth resuscitation without success when the youth was found at 3.45 p.m. Dead In Car A man was found dead in his car after it had crashed into a power pole on the Great South road, Papakura, at 7 p.m. on Saturday. He was William McCrory, aged 46, married, a fitter, of 118 Beaumonts way, Manurewa. Woman Dies A 68-year-old woman pedestrian was killed tonight when
she was struck by a car outside the Manukau Methodist Church about 8.15 p.m. She was Pearl Caroline McLeod, a married woman, of Main road, Manukau. Mrs McLeod, who was accompanied by another woman, is believed to have been crossing the main highway near the church when she was hit. The second woman, whose identity has not been confirmed, received lacerations to the hand and was treated at the scene of the accident by a doctor. Truck Overturned A man was killed this evening when a light truck he was driving overturned in East Coast road, Waiuku. He was Walter James, aged 35, a labourer, married, of Sandspit road, Waiuku. The truck overturned on a straight stretch of road and Mr James was thrown clear. He received severe chest injuries when he struck the road. His two children, aged 11 and 14, who were also in the van, received only minor abrasions. They were treated at the scene of the accident and sent home.
