AGAINST WAR IN VIETNAM
U.S. General’s Sharp Attack (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter— Copy right) WASHINGTON, Feb. 22. General David M. Shoup, a former Marine Corps commandant; said in a speech made public yesterday that he did not think the whole of South-east Asia was worth the life or limb of a single American. “I believe that if we had and would keep our dirty, bloody, dollar-crooked fingers out of the business of these nations so full of depressed, exploited people, they will arrive at a solution of their own,” he said. General Shoup’s speech, made in Los Angeles on May 14 last, was inserted in yesterday's Congressional record by Senator Vance Hartke, an opponent of the Government’s policy in Vietnam. General Shoup, now retired, said yesterday he stood by his speech.
