Club Athletes To Go On Fiji Tour
A team of 14 men and 14 women has been chosen to represent the Christchurch Technical Amateur Athletic Club on a tour of Fiji late next month. The team, which will be little short of Canterbury representative strength, will leave on March 22 and return on April 2.
Among those making the trip are the Commonwealth Games shot and discus representative, Miss D. Charteris, the New Zealand javelin champion and record-holder, Miss S. A. Flynn, and New Zealand pentathlon champion, Miss B. Poulsen. All but a few of the team have won, or been placed in, a senior or junior Canterbury championship. Mr G. I. Anderson, president of the club, said yesterday that the total cost of the trip would be about £2250. Fifty-four athletes, club sup-
porters and parents would be making the tour, he said. Mr Anderson will be manager and Mrs E. M. Anderson chaperone. The club coach, Mr V. Briedis, will accompany the team. The visit is being made at the invitation of the Fijian Amateur Athletic Association.
