GRASS FIRE HAZARD

School Letter To Railways

Members of the board of governors of Papanui High School have decided to send a letter to the New Zealand Railways Department about the fire risk of long grass growing on the side of the railway lines which run along the Papanui High School boundary. The headmaster (Mr E. Fancy), said the grass was dying off in the north-west conditions and created a fire hazard .The school had a fire in July last year which destroyed some of their ground equipment The board also decided to ask the Railways Department to repair the fence on the school boundary. In his report to the board, Mr Fancy said the School year had begun smoothly with an increase in the school roll of 22. The school roll is now 984.
