VIETNAM BOMBING
‘Expansion’ Called For
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) WASHINGTON, Feb. 24.
Senator Richard Russell, the Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, called yesterday for an expansion of the bombing of North Vietnam. He accused President Johnson of “almost unseemly” conduct in following up false peace rumours. He said that he did not understand the outcries against the bombing of North Vietnam.
No such cries were raised over the bombing of Germany and Japan during the Second World War, when many thousands of people were killed, he said.
“If we stop the bombing we should consider whether to maintain a military presence in South Vietnam,” said Senator Russell.
