CLOTHING SENT

Children In Vietnam

The response to an appeal for clothing, medicine and money to help children in Vietnam was good, the chairman of the North Canterbury branch of the Save the Children fund (Miss M. G. Havelaar) said yesterday. However, the purse was very low and what .had been sent was little in comparison with what was needed. Mrs A. W. Stockwell, a committee member said the clothes received had been in good condition. Supplies of dressings, reinforced protein baby food and 50,000 vitamin tablets had been sent.

A research into the type of clothing most suitable had been made and It was found that cotton materials were the best Nylon was useless because it caused excessive perspiration. Dark-coloured clothing proved the most suitable clothing for children because most of the families in Vietnam had little or no facilities for washing the clothes and no chance of replacing dirty clothing. The committee decided to step up its appeal for funds for the children in Vietnam.
