C.A.R.P.
Sir, —The formation of C.A.R.P. is very encouraging, and a credit to the fine Christchurch womanhood who attended the inaugural meeting. The thing that stands out in the discussion at that meeting is the desire of the ordinary housewife to be better informed of the modern sharp business practices that are in existence today. Their desire, which was not reported in your paper, to have economists and trade union officials to address them and explain these practices is most commendable and should be supported by the people that they approach. The only unfortunate feature of C. \.R.P. is that it was not formed five years ago.—Yours, etc, G. G. WALKER.
February 24, 1967. Sir,—lt is good news that we are to have a branch of the Campaign Against Rising Prices in Christchurch, and I will most willingly join it. Boycotting the purchase of goods is often inconvenient, but it definitely pays off in the end if it is organised. What I do hope is that C.A.R.P. will not take on a political slant, as 1 know this will ultimately defeat its own object. Your real profiteer’s identity will always remain hidden and there is no point in harassing the Government, whatever its colour. To raise funds the organisation might devise a cheap badge showing its initials, on the pledge, of say, 500 members to buy it at a rather higher price than the order would cost. Good luck to you, girls’—Yours, etc, BOADICEA. February 24, 1967.
