Penalty Due Next Week
With seven dayffi to go before, the 10 per /cent penalty is due, the Wdimairi, Pepania and Halbwell County Councils had received lest than half their rates up to yesterday, while the Heathcote County Council had received M.l percent.
All four councils have next Wednesday as the last day for payment without penalty. Of the Waimairi County Council’s levy of £552,354, a total of £256,376, or 46.4 per cent, had been received by yesterday, and payments would have to average £42,000 a day for all the rates to come in without penalty. At this time last year, 46.7 per cent of the rates had been paid.
Paparua’s levy totalled £209,741, and to yesterday, £95,601 had been paid. This was 45.5 per cent, as compared with 42.36 per cent at the equivalent date last year. The Heathcote levy was £110,741, and 56.1 per cent, or £61,684, had been collected to yesterday. At HalsweU, about £16,000 or 41 per cent, had been collected from a total levy of £40,000.
