NAVAL HELP

Destroyer Sails

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) CANBERRA, Feb. 8. The Navy is rushing the escort destroyer H.M.A.S. Derwent to Tasmania to provide emergency facilities after the Hobart bush fires.

Derwent left Sydney shortly after 9 a.m. today and is due in Hobart at midday tomorrow.

The vessel will be placed at the disposal of the Tasmanian authorities for whatever aid is required. More than 100 crewmen will be available for clear-ing-up work.

Derwent has a crew of 250.

She is equipped with a first-class communications system which will be offered for emergency use.
