PACER TRAINED OVER FENCES
“The Press" Special Service AUCKLAND. A colt whose early “education” included regular bouts of schooling shaped so impressively at the barrier trials at Alexandra Park yesterday that
he is sure to have a big following in the Cardigan Bay Stakes on Saturday. Named Spare Parts, he led all the way and won easily from the Thames Debutante Stakes
winner, Wattle Bay. He clocked 2min Iftsec for a mile from a standing start, the last half-mile in linin' 4 3-ssec.
Spare Parts is owned by the successful galloping ownertrainer, Mr A. Yardley, who
travelled from Te Awamutu to see the event. Mr Yardley has raced some fine jumpers, among them Bright Fox and Corineus. He bred Spare Parts from a mare named Rosehaven, which lie bought for a shilling
Mr Yanrdley started jumping him when Spare Parts was about 13 months old. “After four months he could jump anything,” he said yesterday.
“My trotting friends in Te Awamutu were so keen for me to race standard breds that one gave me a sulky, another
something else, and another something else,” he said. Hence the name, Spare Parts.
