DALVUI HAS QUICK TRIAL

“The Press” Special Service HASTINGS. Floodlit and Dalvui, which will contest the weight-for-age Jackson Stakes at Wanganui on Saturday, showed their fitness for the

event when they galloped at Hastings this morning. Sir Barton and Lucky Rebel, both, engaged in the Wanganui Cup, also pleased. Diacol, a candidate for the Westmere Highwelght at the week end, ran a sound gallop and Mephisto was also responsible for excellent work.

Conditions were ideal, and the plough and the course proper offered excellent going, though not really fast. Lucky Rebel (R. Grantham) and Ahl (F. Grantham) were paired for seven furlongs in Imin 33 2-ssec, the last three occupying 40sec. Lucky Rebel has run a succession of good races lately without being able to win. But he is in hard condition and could be hard to beat in the Wanganui Cup. Otherwise (K. S. Cullen) was sent out with Sir Barton (J. T. Anderson) and they galloped a round of the plough. Otherwise was a length ahead of his partner to the five furlongs when Sir Barton moved alongside him and they ran abreast to the finish in imin 43 2-ssec, the l?st six in Imin 21sec and the last three in 41sec.

On the strength of his third in the Summer Handicap at Trentham, Sir Barton will probably be favourite for the Wanganui Cup. Day (R. Grantham) Impressed

running three furlongs with Rag Trade (D. Withington) in 39sec. Day appears to have freshened since Wellington. Mephisto (A. T. Jones), which could win the Matarawa Handicap at Wanganui, took Imin 7 l-ssec for five furlongs, the last three in 40 3-s>sec.

Dalvui (B. S. Dodds), which ran third in the Anniversary Handicap at Trentham, but finished well back in the Adams Mile, pleased when he ran seven furlongs boldly with High Disdain (I. D. Lawson) in Imin 33sec, the last three furlongs in 38 3-ssec. In the small Jackson Stakes field, Dalvui could be prominent.

Floodlit (A. T. Jones) galloped six furlongs in Imin 18sec, the last five in Imin 4 l-ssec, and the last three in 39 4-ssec. He was to have picked up Ponsadin (R. B. Marsh) at the three furlongs, but Ponsadin went off before Floodlit. Floodlit, winner of the Wellington Stakes, is to contest the Jackson Stakes. He will be hard to beat. Awapuni . “The Press” Special Service AWAPUNI. Laramie ran a sensational time on the plough at Awapuni yesterday morning. The Wanganui Cup candidate recorded the fastest mile timed for 10 years when he completed a brilliant semi-final trial for Saturday's race. W. D. Skelton has been engaged to ride him. Laramie’s time of Imin 40

2-ssec has not been bettered since the days of Deceptive, one of the best plough gallopers ever seen at Awapuni. Although he carried a fairly light weight it was still a first-class effort.

The plough was Lightning fast and Laramie took Imin Isec for his first five furlongs. He kept up a strong gallop and came home his last three in 39 2-ssec, after running his first three in 36 2-ssec.

On the inside trial Bandon was never at top over six furlongs, which took him Imin 17 4-ssec, the last three in 38sec. He is a candidate for the Wanganui Cup, but no decision has been made regarding a start. There has been no rider engaged for him yet. Ellen’s Joy, which will race at the Hawera meeting next week, showed speed over half a mile in 49 3-ssec, the final three furlongs in 37sec.

Prince d'Amour, which ts in the Wanganui Flying Thousand, took Imin 6sec for five furlongs, the last three in 40 4-ssec.
