N.Z. DISPLAY CENTRE
Invitation To l Canterbury
A meeting of leading Christchurch travel agents and tourist promoters yesterday was invited by the sales manager of the New Zealand Display Centre in Cuba street, Wellington (Mr A. G. Haslett), to contribute an item representative of Canterbury for the new travel court
Consideration is to be given to the erection of a section in the court on Canterbury, and another section on tourist attractions in the South Island. “We are interested enough to want to look into it,” said Mr G. R. Burrowes, the president of the Canterbury Progress League. “It is a very good thing in principle, but we want to know more about it. We have got to know its ramifications, such as the position we would have in the court, how finance is to be gathered, and who in Canterbury is prepared to support it.” Mr M. F. Foate, speaking for publicity association, said as far as he knew Otago, Nelson, and Marlborough had already given the centre their support. He intended to suggest to the West Coast, South Canterbury, and Southland that they come in also, so that, with a general pooling of recources, a special display on the South Island could be organised. “The Canterbury Progress League will be asked to tie up Canterbury’s interests for the businessmen and manufacturers, while S.I.P.A. will cover the South Island on a tourist basis,” he said. Mr Haslett urged that Canterbury be represented. The idea of the court was to publicise the scenic attractions, business activities, and social and sporting pursuits of the district.
