Beach-Thefts Warning

“The only way to prevent thefts on beaches is to retain physical possession of all valuables, and if physical possession cannot be retained then the valuables should be left at home,” Detective Superintendent F. A. Gordon, head of the Christchurch C. 1.8., said last evening, commenting on recent thefts at Christchurch beaches. The police had had reported to them instances where persons had taken valuables from' their cars so as not to encour- \ age thieves to break in. The; valuables had been taken on! to the beach, but while the; owner’s attention was distracted purses and other valuables had been taken. “Sometimes the theft has been made right under the nose of the owner,” he said.
