BUSHFIRES NEAR SYDNEY.—A photograph taken a few days ago when a series of fires swept through French’s Forest, in an outer suburban area north of Sydney. Three of the fire-fighters are seen standing their ground as a gusty wind turns the flames towards them. The fires were brought under control, but the potential danger caused many residents in the district to stay away from work to protect their homes.
