Marshal Ky’s Visit
Sir, —If all newspapers reason in the same illogical manner as the Sydney “Sun,” as reported in “The Press,” God help democracy. “Marshal Ky came to Australia tagged as ’an admirer of Hitler, a murderer, a butcher, a little gangster. . . .’ It is bard to reconcile this picture when iyou see the Prime Minister standing beside the elegantly poised beautiful young girl who is his wife.” From this it would appear that the moral for all murderers to follow is this: “Don’t many an ugly woman.” If you do it is proof of your, guilt Perhaps this is the reason why so many American gangsters marry elegantly poised, beautiful young women to prove their innocence.— Yours, etc., THE FLEA. January 22, 1967.
Sir,—Perhaps someone will explain to the visitors passing through that New Zealand is a sheep-country. Masses of sheep can be controlled with a few dogs. Sometimes a sheep will show a bit of individuality and try to run away from the mob. However, the whistle of the master will soon bring this to the dogs’ attention and most sheep are soon returned to the mob Yours, etc.,
January 22, 1967. Sir, —I hope you will permit a few facts once in a
| while. Ky, a North Vietnamese, was the protege of General Khanh who gave him 'his honorary, non-existent rank. Ky supported Khanh against rebel generals twice, but at the third attempt threw the air force against his patron, who was replaced by . Dr. Quat. Quat, in turn, “asked” the rebel generals to take over, and Ky promised an end to corruption, but quickly backed down against I the power of the black-market and brothel interests. His second wife is beautiful, bjit so are many more Vietnamese women who have not had the benefit of plastic surgery in Tokyo, and she is less attractive in the jet-black flying suit sported in her homeland. However, I still think demonstrators should lay off and let this modest pair, who live like millionaires, see democracy at work in this country.—Yours, etc., VARIAN J. WILSON. January 22, 1967.
