Airfield May Not Be Ready

(N.I Press Association) AUCKLAND, Jan. 22. It appears almost certain that R.N.Z.A.F. transport aircraft will not be able to land troops on the new Waiouru airfield for next month’s combat brigade exercise. Various problems now face the Army planners because there are no contractors who can seal the strip owing to the Tongariro power project The 4000 ft strip has taken Army engineers just under a year to form and metal, working through blizzards, hailstorms and heavy snow.
