LENNON CUP

The Canterbury teams, Papanui and Richmond, dominated the zone five (Canterbury, West Coast, Nelson, and Marlborough) final of the John Lennon softball tournament at Blenheim on Saturday and yesterday.

The teams' only loss was by Richmond. 3-13, to Papanui yesterday. A Richmond runner, talking to his coach at third base and oblivious of the opportunity to make home as a throw to second went wide, seemed to typify the laxity of that team in its match against Papanui. The carelessness was more evident in the fielding, which contrasted with that of Papanui’s outfielders. Their swift and accurate pegs took many Richmond base runners by surprise. Results were:—

Saturday: Richmond 5. Old Boys (West Coast) 0; Richmond 10, Rebels (Nelson) 0; Richmond 13, Wairau 2; Papanui 5, Wairau 1; Papanui 25, Rebels 2: Papanui 12. Air Force (Marlborough) 4; Air Force 7, Old Boys 6; Old Boys 10, Wairau 0. Sunday: Richmond 25, Air Force 2; Papanui 15, Old Boys 0; Wairau 8, Rebels 3; Papanui 13, Richmond 3; Rebels 9. Old Boys 3.
