Hutt Totalisator Unable To Cope
Totalisator facilities at Hutt Park on Saturday night were inadequate for the crowd of 8684 attending the first night of the Wellington Trotting Club’s cup meeting.
Waits up to 20 minutes in doubles queues were common and at- one stage there was not enough room for people to join queues before the running of the Wellington Cup. This and a heavy shower of rain just before and during the cup sent many of the large crowd, attracted by a warm night and the innovation of a concession double, home early. Work on the clubs’ new stand, which had been expected to be completed for the meeting, was held up by bad weather. The new building occupies space formerly used by about 30 per cent of the totalisator window. The club handled £67,781
on-course, compared with £64,450. Off-course betting was down from £112,112 15s last year to £109,827 ss.
