Rain May Persist
Little hope for an early Improvement was held out by the weather office yesterday afternoon. “We expect a gradual improvement throughout the night, but showers should persist about and north of Banks Peninsula in the morning,” said a meteorologist “The southerly air stream is still
coming on to the country, but the depression is gradually moving away.”
To yesterday, there had been only 15 hours 12 minutes of sunshine at Harewood since December 31, 7 hours 24 minutes of
which was recorded on January 1. No sunshine was recorded yesterday or on Wednesday, . and only 36 minutes was recorded on Monday. From Christmas Day, only 49 hours of sunshine has been recorded, and 1.93 in of rain had fallen between December 24 and 6 p.m. yesterday 1.07 in of it yesterday. Temperatures yesterday dropped slowly after a maximum of 56 degrees had been recorded at Harewood at 6 a.m. and 9 a.m., and at noon it was 54 degrees and at 3 p.m. 52 degrees.
