ALLEGED RAPE
Ninth Youth Charged (N.Z. Press Association) WHANGAREI, Jan. 6. A ninth youth has been arrested in connexion with the alleged rape of a girl at Whangarei on January 1. The youth, Brian James Wilson, aged 20, of Park avenue, Whangarei, appeared before Mr F. F. Downie, J.P., charged with attempted rape. He was remanded in custody until January 9. Eight other youths were charged on Tuesday, seven in the Magistrate’s Court and one in the children’s Court. The seven who appeared in the Magistrate’s Court were remanded in custody and the one from the children’s Court was released on bail. All were charged with rape. Mr B. C. Thome, for Wilson, applied for bail but SeniorSergeant G. Rees, said he opposed it “most strongly.”
