Having criticised the N.Z.B.C. for looking backwards every New Year, I intend to do the same. To forestall criticism I must say that I don’t object to an annual review being done; I merely object to the way in which it is done. My purpose in looking backwards is to discover how much TV in 1966 deserved to be branded Well Made New Zealand. The N.Z.B.C. is an organisation but it is human, and like ourselves it has had its disappointments, its successes, and its failures in the past year. Perhaps the most disappointing programme of the year was “The Tall Trees and the Gold,” an historical documentary describing the winning of kauri gum and timber from the forests of Northland, and gold from the fields of Thames and Coromandel.
