Boats Level, Last Race To Decide

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. The Wellington yacht. Hustler, skipped by D. Hudson, had a decisive win over the defending champion, R. J. Skelton’s Leo, in the national catamaran championships yesterday. With the final race of the five-race class series to be sailed today, Leo and Hustler are tied on 360 points, well clear of the other Shearwater entries. In the four other classes, boats have taken unassailable leads, and so interest in today’s event will centre on the Shearwater leaders as they battle out first place. The Auckland yacht,Andromeda, caused an upset in the International A class when its skipper, M. Tennant, brought his craft home ahead of the Open class champion, G. Stanton, of Canterbury, sailing Saracen.

However, Stanton needed needed only a placing to put him in an impregnable points position, giving him the A class and the Open class championships with one race to be sailed. Results after four races in the five classes are:— International A: Saracen (G. Stanton) 360. Aloha (J. Simmons) 220.950, Fantasy (K. Fay) 217.082. International B: Elusive (D. Turner) 320, Per Shan (A. W. Cordell) 225, Sklddadle (D. Campbell) 213.332. Shearwater: Wild Cat (W. Wood) 400, Thor (P. Berry) 251.426, Tamore (B. Dentlth) 202.008. Yachting world: Leo (R. J.
