BIG FLOODS IN MALAYA

(N.Z.PA.-Reuter—Copyright) KUALA LUMPUR, Jan. 6. Two people have been drowned and more than 10,000 have been evacuated in monsoon floods now approaching disaster proportions in northern and eastern Malaya. A state of emergency has been declared in the states of Kelantan and Trengganu, and the Malaysian Deputy Premier, Tun Abdul Razak, has flown north to assess the situation.

Kelantan is now completely cut off from the rest of the country, and communications over much of the peninsula have been severed.

An express train from Singapore to the Kelantan State capital, Kota Bahru, has been stranded in the jungle.

Kota Bahru itself was reported under four feet of fi'ater, and floods up to 15 feet

deep have been reported from other towns. Apart from a pedicab driver and a woman posted as drowned, officials also fear for the lives of seven fishermen missing on the stormswept South China Sea since Tuesday.
