German Bank Rate Cut

(N.Z. Press Assn.—CoptjrigM) FRANKFURT, Jan. 6. The Federal Banking Council, yielding to pressure from the Government, industry, and labour, yesterday ordered the bank discount rate in West Germany to be reduced from 5 to 4.5 per cent. The action came nearly eight months after the council had raised the rate from 4 to 5 per cent in a move aimed to cool off West Germany's “overheated” economy.
