‘Getting Closer Every Day’

C.v.z. Press Association—Copyright) SAIGON, January 6. The South Vietnamese Premier, Nguyen Cao Ky, said today: “We are getting closer to negotiations every day.”

He said that peace talks were nearer than ever, “because North Vietnam is suffering and we are stronger than ever. “They are finding the war too expensive both in money and men.” Marshal Ky was speaking at Saigon Airor. where he was seeing off Mr Bui Diem, South Vietnam’s Ambassa-dor-designate to the United States.

“Negotiations mean victory for us ... it means we have kept our freedom intact It means they recognise they cannot win,” he said. Asked whether his military regime would negotiate wtih the National Liberation Front apart from Hanoi, Marshal Ky laughed and said: “There is only one liberator in this country—me.”
