TROTTING BRIGHT ENTERPRISE AND HALBERG

On-Course Double Prospects Tonight

Bright Enterprise and Halberg are a form combination for the on-course double on the first night of the Canterbury Park Trotting Club’s meeting at Addington Raceway today.

Bright Enterprise was placed at the New Brighton meeting last Saturday, and Halberg was placed at Ashburton last Monday.

Bright Enterprise was third behind Ulight last week. Improved track conditions are expected this evening and this should enhance the prospects of Bright Enterprise. Sir Charles has paced two most encouraging races recently for a fourth at the New Brighton meeting last Saturday and a seventh at Ashburton two days later. Sir Charles could be returning to the promising form he showed three or four years ago, and a win might not be beyond him.

Bass Strait has drawn badly, but in spite of this he will be in demand after a fourth at Ashburton. Ingleburn might be more solidly supported. She was a good second at the New Brighton meeting and was not disgraced when ninth at Ashburton. Along with Flying Step and Barbuda, she appeals most of the others.

Halberg meets Stylish Major on 24 yards more favourable terms than when he finished third behind him at Ashburton on Monday. With average luck he should be the hardest to beat in the Raceway Handicap. Stylish Major has a big reputation in the south and the brother of Le Chant attracted attention to his future prospects when he won at Ashburton. If he handles the grit at Addington with the same confidence, he should extend Halberg. The consistent Our Debbie was not at ease in the going at Addington last week and finished eighth. She could easily make amends at rewarding odds this week. Phoebe Martial, Milford Nurse, Direct Globe and Melissa are others expected to show to advantage.

The T.A.B. double will be run on the Canterbury Park Cup and the New Year Handicap. Fair weather is forecast and the track should be in good order.
