Aluminium Trees
(Special Crspdt. N.Z.P.A.) SYDNEY, December 20. Bushfires and the drought will leave their mark on the Australian Christmas this year, for they are largely responsible for the passing of the traditional Christmas tree.
Artificial trees, made mainly from aluminium, have eclipsed the old plain pine as the main Christmas decoration in thousands of Australian homes.
A spokesman for the Forestry Commission said bushfires and the drought had reduced the numbers of young pines during 1965, and there were very few on the market.
