Bangkok’s Jet Fire-Boat

The first jet fire-boat to be commissioned in Bangkok, Thailand, is fitted with a jet unit manufactured by C. W. F. Hamilton and Company, Ltd., of Christchurch.

The jet unit, powered by a 220 h.p. petrol engine, also supplied by Hamilton’s, will act as an auxiliary to the boat’s 250 h.p. main propulsion diesel engine. The jet will give the 63ft fire boat of the Bangkok Police extra speed, when it is going to a fire. The general manager of

Hamilton’s (Mr E. P. Chapman) is on a world tour and has visited Bangkok. The jet unit on the fire boat also drives the pump of a twin fire hose. Further fire boats of this type are being designed using jet units manufactured by Hamilton’s. The engines for the jet units are imported into New Zealand and then converted by Hamilton’s for marine use. The photograph shows the 63ft fire-boat in Bangkok police harbour.
