PRE-SOLD TOLLS

Help For Traffic

tf The Press” Special Service AUCKLAND, Dec. 20.

Pre-sold Harbour Bridge toll tokens could replace tickets for cars and automatic collectors could be put on the plaza to keep these faster moving vehicles to centre lanes, the general manager of the Bridge Authority, Mr O. H. Brannigan said in a report.

Neither "three and one” operation of the four lanes on the Harbour Bridge or concessional toll rates were favoured by Mr Brannigan. He said he had seen both systems on his recent overseas study tour. The use of automatic toll collection units was increasing overseas, but they could not be used to best advantage until a satisfactory method of processing tickets through the machines was found, Mr Brannigan said. He had not seen automatic machines combined with the use of tokens anywhere in his tour, but he understood they were in use.
