OVERSEAS SYDNEY
The main feature of trading on the Sydney Stock Exchange yesterday was the record high of the mining index which advanced 1.73 per cent to 1342.51. Consolidated Goldfields once again stole the limelight with a 20-cent rise to 426 on heavy trading. The investment section also gained ground. One of the most significant movements was 8.H.P., which gained eight cents to 618. Turnover of 919,000, including 374,000 mining was heavy.

MELBOURNE Continued buying support for Consolidated Goldfields was a feature of yesterday’s firm market on the Melbourne Stock Exchange. (The shares gained another 17 cents to 424. Industrials trading was quiet but rises well outnumbered falls, 1.C.1.A.N.Z. gained 12 cents to 378. Base metals were firm, oils irregular.
