Mr Allan Leslie Peart, aged 41, married with five children, of Wairoa, was found dead in the chamber of a freezer at the Lake House Hotel, Waikaremoana, about 6.30 a.m. on Monday. The freezer is one of three large storerooms in a detached building at the back of the kitchen. Mr Peart was found dead when the door to the freezer was opened by a member of the kitchen staff. At this stage the freezer had been defrosted.
Mr Peart had gone from Wairoa to the Lake House on Sunday evening to repair a unit which had given repeated trouble over recent weeks. He began work about 7 p.m. It is understood a member of the kitchen staff passed the freezer some time later and gained the impression fb->t Mr Peart was still working. *
