TRIBUTE TO COUNCILLOR

The Lyttelton Borough Council was very indebted to the late Cr. G. E. Boyd for the service she had given to the council, the Mayor (Mr J. B. Collett) said at a meeting of the council last evening. The Mayor said Mrs Boyd had given continuous service to the council for 19 years. She had been one of the only two women who had been councillors, and she had served on a number of subcommittees. “We should be thankful we have people like her in the borough willing to serve,” the Mayor said. The council decided to hold a by-election to fill the extraordinary vacancy in the council.

The returning officer (Mr J. Thompson) said the election would be held on a date between January 31 and February 7.
