Search Today For Four Lost In Bush
(New Zealand Press Association)
NEW PLYMOUTH, December 19.
Search parties will enter the rugged country of eastern Taranaki at first light tomorrow to find two men and two women believed lost in the bush.
The missing people left Auckland about 6.30 p.m. on Friday on what was described as a climbing and tramping holiday in the New Plymouth area.
Those missing are Mr Gordon Maitland, aged 26; his sister, Miss Eileen Maitland, 21; Miss Marie Begg, 21; and Mr Kevin Munro, 26. The party had planned to return to Auckland on Sunday. Their car was found about 5 p.m. today on the Moki road, two miles north of Tahora, on the Stratford-Ohura highway, following an aerial search of the area.
Late tonight parties were organised for tomorrow’s search. Mr A. H. Maitland, father of two members of the party, said tonight that the party was equipped with two pup tents, sleeping bags and camping gear, including cooking facilities. They were wearing summer clothing.
