AUCKLAND, Dec. 19.
Farmers whose properties adjoin the Kingseat psychiatric hospital, near Waiuku, say they are disturbed at the freedom allowed patients and are concerned for the safety of their families.
Mr K. Mcßobbie, who yesterday helped to capture four inmates who kidnapped a male nurse and threatened him with a screwdriver, said the patients were allowed too much freedom. “Yesterday’s episode which, unfortunately, had been witnessed by two of my three children and my wife, has upset us and this morning I lodged an official complaint with the medical superintendent, Dr. D. M. F. McDonald, about the freedom allowed patients,” said Mr Mcßobbie. Mr Mcßobbie said patients had on occasions interfered with his stock.
I Other farmers said they jhad had to ask patients to leave their properties at various times. Dr. McDonald said there would be a review of patients’ privileges in view of local concern.
