ROTARY APPEAL
£l5OO For Welfare About £l5OO, collected yesterday at. the annual street appeal of the combined Rotary Clubs in Christchurch, will be used to assist the aged and the needy, and the welfare of the community generally. Of the amount collected, £213 was raised at a stall held in Cathedral square by the women of the clubs. The stall which sold mostly produce, was the best ever held, said the chairman of the appeal committee (Mr M. J. W. Davis). Last year £l3lB was raised from the appeal and of this £157 came from the stall. The money was used to assist a number of hospitals, children’s homes, handicapped and other welfare organisations, paraplegics, to provide toys for children in hospital, and to send boys to Outward Bound. The suburban clubs brought in £375. The return from the appeal was about 20 per cent up on last year. The president of the Rotary Club of Christchurch (Mr J. E. Davies) said that it had been a most encouraging appeal, and the Rotary clubs were deeply grateful to the publie.
