DRUG FOR DRINK
Is A Dose (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) LONDON, Dec. 9. The latest measure to combat the “drink deihon” is a drug claimed to accelerate the rate at which the body destroys alcohol in the bloodstream. A chemical company in Cheltenham, which hopes to market the substance within three months, will submit it to the Dunlop Committee first in order to check its ability to kill alcohol in the blood, and to guard against toxic side effects.
The drug, which will sell at Is a dose, is, according to the company’s managing director, “derived from fructose or something like that.” It is a powder taken with milk or water, recommended 20 minutes or half an hour before drinking alcohol.
