“IMPOSSIBLE TO CONTROL”

Boy May Be Held In Gaol (N.Z. Prew AttocfaUon) WELLINGTON, December 7. A 16-yearold boy facing a number of charges arising from a hit-and-run accident on Monday night will be held in Mount Crawford Prison unless someone provides a £l5O surety for his release on bail. In the Children’s Court at Wellington today a welfare officer told Mr R. D. Jamieson, S.M., that the boy was impossible to control and unsuitable to be held in the Kilbirnie Child Welfare receiving home. The boy was the driver of a car which is alleged to have struck a woman. The woman is seriously ill in Wellington Hospital. The boy is charged with carelessly using a motorvehicle causing injury, failing to report an accident within 24 hours and driving without a licence. The Magistrate said he would release the boy on £l5O bail if someone would provide a similar surety. “If a surety isn’t found, he’ll have to be held in Mount Crawford. It’s the only place for him,” he said. He ordered that if this

happened, the boy should be kept apart from adult prisoners. He remanded the boy till December 14.
