Shorter Term Proposed

(N.Z. Prets Aaaeciatton) WELLINGTON, December 7. A reduction of up to 1000 hours in the contract terms of engineering apprentices is proposed by the Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship Committee. The committee will ask the Arbitration Court to amend the apprenticeship order accordingly. The amendment would also provide for higher wages and better incentives for passing examinations, the committee said. The maximum term would be 9000 hours, with an 8000hour term for apprentices with school certificate or 50 per cent marks in any two of the approved subjects in that examination.
