G. F. Hughes, one of the leading jockeys in New Zealand for the last decade, has seven chances to ride his thousandth winner at Te Aroha tomorrow. Hughes is engaged for Queen’s Romance, Tina, Red Count, Second Sight, Terrific, Warlord and Fairylore. Queen’s Romance, in the first division of the Spa Maiden, and Tina, In the Elstow Hack Handicap, look Hughes’s best chances. Queen’s Romance at her last start finished second to Lady Sasanof, which was ridden by Hughes at Pukekohe last Saturday. Tina has gained a win and three minor placings from her last four starts.
